Arriva Italia publishes its third Sustainability Report: thanks to €45.9 million in investments, by the end of 2024, 32% of the fleet consisted of “clean” vehicles

The energy transition is redefining the way we operate: we are evaluating new solutions, from biomethane to other alternative fuels, to offer increasingly sustainable, efficient and reliable public transport services.”

Milan, 10 December – Arriva Italia, a company operating in the local public transport sector in Valle d’Aosta and in the provinces of Turin, Brescia, Bergamo, Lecco and Cremona, as well as in school transport for students with disabilities in the Municipality of Rome, has published the third edition of its Sustainability Report with the consultancy of Amapola Società Benefit, confirming a growth and consolidation trajectory oriented towards responsibility, innovation and reduced environmental impact.

2024 was a particularly significant year for Arriva, marked by renewed momentum in its industrial plans aimed at strengthening its presence in the Italian market through major new investments across the territory.

In 2024, Arriva Italia transported 49.7 million passengers, with 1,478 employees and 1,456 vehicles, covering a total of 51.6 million kilometres.

The company’s commitment to decarbonisation continues decisively: thanks to fleet modernisation investments totalling €45.9 million, by year-end 32% of the fleet consisted of “clean” vehicles (rising to 40% at the end of 2025).

“The energy transition is redefining the way we operate: we are evaluating new solutions, from biomethane to other alternative fuels, to offer increasingly sustainable, efficient and reliable public transport services. At the same time, we are investing in our people, promoting diversity, inclusion, training and safety, because they are our most strategic resource for the challenges ahead,” said Angelo Costa, Managing Director of Arriva Italia. “Our daily commitment is dedicated to the nearly 50 million passengers who chose our services in 2024, to whom we continue to guarantee quality, innovation, and a modern and safe mobility experience.”

Sustainability reporting

With the 2024 edition, Arriva Italia takes a further step forward in its reporting practices by voluntarily adopting the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), despite not yet being subject to regulatory obligations. The report is based on the principle of double materiality, combining the assessment of environmental impacts with the analysis of economic risks and opportunities. This year, too, the Sustainability Report underwent external assurance, and the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions was verified by an independent third party. The report also includes information on the management of significant suppliers, a key element in ensuring a solid and resilient supply chain.

In continuity with 2023, six territorial reports dedicated to the areas where Arriva Italia operates were also published, with the goal of ensuring maximum transparency and highlighting local performance.

The 2024 Sustainability Report and the territorial reports are available on the Arriva Italia website at: sustainability report.
