Arriva Italia: Roberto Salerno is the new operations director

The engineer from Bergamo becomes responsible for the Group’s operational organization in order to optimize its structures and resources.

Arriva Italia – the Italian holding company of the Arriva Group and one of the leading operators in the local public transport sector in Italy – has appointed Roberto Salerno as its new operations director. Roberto thus succeeds Valentina Astori in responsibilities related to the company’s operational activities. Roberto holds a degree in Civil Engineering (transportation section) from the Milan Politecnico and an MBA master’s degree also from the Politecnico. He joined Arriva in 2005, and has held positions of increasing responsibility within the company organization.

In 2009 he was appointed SIA operations director, a position he held until 2018 when he took on the same role in the Bergamo and Lecco subsidiary SAB, later becoming area operations director. Today Roberto assumes the position of director of operations for the entire Group, which operates directly in Lombardy, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta and is present instead as a holding company of reference, through investee companies, in Veneto, Friuli Venezia-Giulia and Como.

The Salerno name is historically linked to that of SAB, the Bergamo-based local transport company that became part of the Arriva Group in 2002. In fact, Roberto’s father, Cesare Salerno, was CEO of SAB for 17 years and the internationalization of the Bergamo-based company is due to him.
